What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that works with the subconscious mind, which is the part of the brain that runs habits, emotional responses, beliefs and automatic patterns.
In a hypnotherapy session, you are guided into a focused, relaxed state where your mind becomes more receptive to change. From here, unhelpful patterns can be gently updated and replaced with healthier ones.

Research shows hypnosis can support stress reduction, emotional regulation, behaviour change and symptom relief when used appropriately and ethically.

Is hypnotherapy evidence-based?

Yes. Hypnosis has been studied for decades and is recognised as an effective, evidence-informed approach for issues such as anxiety, phobias, stress, pain management, habit change and emotional regulation.

Brain imaging studies show that during hypnosis, areas of the brain involved in attention, perception and emotional processing change activity; supporting the idea that hypnosis is a real neurophysiological state, not imagination or mind control.

Will I be unconscious or asleep?

No. Hypnosis is not sleep.
You remain aware, present and in control at all times. Most people describe it as a state of deep relaxation combined with focused awareness; similar to being absorbed in a book, meditation or daydream.

You can hear everything that is said, and you can speak, move or stop the session at any time.
